Dependable Hull Technology

Traveling frozen surfaces often in isolation requires dependable construction built to resist constant vibration at extremely cold temperatures. The hull has a polyethylene bottom bonded with multiple layers of DuPont Kevlar™ for maximum durability, minimum weight and surprisingly low maintenance. Years of testing and the latest vacuum bagging techniques have created a hull with superior structural integrity and stability while resisting abrasion, puncture and freeze-in.

DuPont Kevlar™, one of the strongest, most durable fibers available, is used throughout the boat, including the hull. It is exceptionally light and flexible and when testes against steel on an equal weight basis it is five times stronger. The DuPont Kevlar™ layers are bonded using the latest techniques resulting in a superior bond. We have also developed a patented process to attach the polyethylene that does not compromise the hull integrity with holes through the bottom of the boat. Other manufacturers use bolts through the hull to secure the polymer. These bolts often loosen or break allowing the hull to take on water.

Unlike conventional airboats, our search and rescue airboat does not have a stringer system throughout the hull. In the early years of our development, we learned that cracks developed at the stringer locations. Our current hull is designed to flex and absorb impacts, thus reducing expensive hull repairs and potential leaks normally associated with rigid construction. To control this flex, we incorporate small airbags that can be adjusted and monitored through a dash-mounted gauge. Another advantage of a flexible hull is a smoother, quitter ride when transporting crew members and victims across uneven surfaces.
